ENGINE TYPES AFFECT YOUR LIFT

You’ve searched long and hard for the 4x4 lift kit you want for your vehicle, and you’ve come across this page to find out the importance of providing your vehicles engine type (petrol / diesel). Well let us explain to you why it is super important for you to let us know what type of engine you have!

When you’re grabbing a 4x4 lift kit for your adventure rig from us, please tell us your vehicles engine type (petrol / diesel) so we can assist in providing you with the correct 4x4 lift kit and springs.

Why we need to know what type of engine your 4WD has?

Not that many people are aware that a vehicles engine type can determine the type of springs that can be fitted to the vehicle. So, to ensure your vehicle has a level lift and comfortable ride, we need to know! The reason behind this is that diesel engines are found to be 10 to 20% heavier than a similar capacity petrol engine. Surprisingly diesel and petrol engines have completely different weight characteristics. It can be said that stock diesel vehicles without any front accessories such as a winch or bull bar would still need a different set of front coil springs to the same variant petrol model.

How does my engine type affect spring rates?

Depending on the type of engine you have, diesel or petrol, will determine what springs you will need. A diesel engine is about 10 to 20% heavier than a similar capacity petrol engine therefore a petrol vehicle springs are rated less than diesel vehicle springs. For example, raised springs for a petrol Mitsubishi Pajero are equivalent to standard height springs on a diesel Mitsubishi Pajero.
