Fulcrum's range of alignment parts includes camber bolts, alignment shims, caster wedges, offset bush kits, adjustable arms, adjustable panhard rods, centre bearing alignment kits and more. The range covers 4WDs, utes, everyday cars and performance vehicles.
What Are Alignment Parts?
Every vehicle's suspension is designed to hold the wheels at specific angles. During a wheel alignment, a technician adjusts these angles to the vehicle's specification using the adjustment built into the suspension.
On many vehicles, that built-in adjustment is limited. If the suspension has been lifted or lowered, or if components have moved or worn, the factory adjustment may not be enough to bring the wheels back into specification. Alignment parts provide additional or different adjustment, giving the technician enough range to set the alignment correctly.
Camber, Caster and Toe Explained
Wheel alignment is set using three main angles:
- Camber is the inward or outward tilt of the wheel when viewed from the front of the vehicle.
- Caster is the angle of the steering axis when viewed from the side of the vehicle.
- Toe is the direction the wheels point, inwards or outwards, when viewed from above.
Different alignment parts adjust different angles. Some adjust only one, while others adjust more than one.
When You Need Alignment Parts
You may need alignment parts if:
- Your wheel alignment technician has said the alignment can't be brought into specification with the existing adjustment
- You've lifted or lowered your vehicle and the geometry has changed
- You've fitted coilovers or other suspension changes that affect alignment
- You want to set your alignment for a specific purpose, such as performance or track driving
- Your tyres are showing uneven wear and your alignment needs correcting
Uneven tyre wear and a vehicle that pulls to one side can have several causes. Have your vehicle inspected to find the cause before choosing parts.
Types of Alignment Parts
Camber Bolts
Camber bolts replace a standard bolt in the suspension with an eccentric bolt. Turning the bolt moves the mounting point slightly, allowing camber to be adjusted. Camber bolts come in different sizes to suit different vehicles. Browse the Camber Bolts range to find the right size.
Alignment Shims
Alignment shims are fitted at suspension mounting points on some vehicles to adjust alignment angles such as camber and caster. Shims come in different thicknesses so the adjustment can be fine-tuned. Browse the Alignment Shims range.
Caster Wedges
Caster wedges are fitted between the leaf spring and the axle on some vehicles to change the caster angle, often after a suspension lift. They come in different angles to suit the correction needed. Browse the Caster Wedges range.
Offset Bush Kits
Offset bush kits replace standard suspension bushes with bushes that move the position of the pivot point. This changes the alignment geometry. Options in the range include camber, caster and anti-lift kits for selected vehicles.
Adjustable Arms
Adjustable arms replace fixed factory arms with arms that can be adjusted in length. The range includes adjustable camber arms, toe arms, lateral arms, trailing arms and lower control arms for selected vehicles. These give a wider range of adjustment than the factory arms.
Upper Control Arms and Radius Arms for Lifted Vehicles
The range includes fixed offset and adjustable upper control arms and radius arms designed for selected lifted vehicles. These are designed to correct suspension geometry after a lift.
Adjustable Panhard Rods
A panhard rod locates the axle from side to side on vehicles with a solid axle. After a suspension lift or lowering, the axle can sit off-centre. An adjustable panhard rod allows the axle position to be adjusted so it can be re-centred under the vehicle.
Offset Strut Mounts and Caster Plates
Offset strut mounts and caster offset plates change the position of the top of the strut. This allows camber and caster to be adjusted on selected vehicles with strut suspension.
Centre Bearing Alignment Kits
On some 4WDs, lifting the vehicle changes the tailshaft angle. The centre bearing alignment kits allow the tailshaft centre bearing alignment to be corrected depending on how much the vehicle has been raised.
Roll Centre and Bump Steer Correction Kits
Roll centre and bump steer correction kits are designed for selected lowered vehicles. They use specially engineered ball joints and tie rod ends to correct roll centre and bump steer geometry.
Full fitment details, specifications and inclusions are listed on each product page.
Alignment Parts for Lifted 4WDs
Lifting a 4WD changes its suspension geometry. Depending on the vehicle and the size of the lift, this can affect camber, caster, axle position and driveline angles.
Common alignment parts for lifted 4WDs include:
- Camber bolts, for extra camber adjustment
- Caster wedges, for leaf-sprung axles
- Upper control arms and radius arms, designed for lifted vehicles
- Adjustable panhard rods, to re-centre a solid axle
- Centre bearing alignment kits, to correct the tailshaft centre bearing alignment
Planning alignment parts alongside your lift kit means everything can be fitted and aligned at the same time.
Alignment Parts for Lowered and Performance Vehicles
Lowering a vehicle also changes its suspension geometry and can affect camber, toe, roll centre and bump steer. Performance drivers may also want alignment settings outside the factory range to suit how they drive.
Common alignment parts for lowered and performance vehicles include:
- Camber bolts and offset bush kits, for extra camber and caster adjustment
- Adjustable camber and toe arms, for a wider range of adjustment
- Offset strut mounts and caster plates
- Roll centre and bump steer correction kits
Choosing the Right Alignment Parts
Alignment parts are designed to suit particular vehicles and setups, so choosing the right one starts with your make and model. Before you buy, check:
- Vehicle fitment: use the vehicle search to find alignment parts that suit your make, model and year.
- What needs correcting: confirm whether you need to adjust camber, caster, toe, axle position or driveline angle.
- Your setup: consider whether your vehicle is lifted, lowered or otherwise modified, and by how much.
- Front or rear: check the fitting position on the product listing.
If you're not sure which parts you need, a wheel alignment technician can measure your current alignment and tell you what correction is needed. Fulcrum's team can also help you choose.
Fitting Alignment Parts and Getting a Wheel Alignment
Alignment parts change your vehicle's suspension geometry, so they need to be fitted correctly. If you're not confident working on suspension components, have them fitted by a qualified technician. A wheel alignment is needed after fitting so the parts can be adjusted and the alignment set to specification.
With Fulcrum's Click & Fit service, you can buy your alignment parts online and have them delivered to your nearest Fulcrum workshop for installation. Fulcrum also offers wheel alignments and a free suspension check.
