The GVM of an Isuzu D-Max 4x4 is 3100kg on the current RG model sold from 2020, with 4x2 models rated up to 3000kg. Within that, the front axle is limited to 1450kg and the rear to 1910kg. The 2012 to 2020 D-Max 4x4 is rated at 2950kg. A certified GVM upgrade lifts the current D-Max to 3700kg.

Isuzu D-Max GVM is the most your D-Max can legally weigh fully loaded, and on a dual cab carrying a bull bar, canopy and touring gear, it’s a number you’ll reach sooner than you’d think. Whether you’ve searched “Dmax GVM”, “Isuzu Dmax GVM” or “Isuzu D-Max GVM”, the answer depends on your model year, cab style and drivetrain. Here’s the full picture, including the axle limits most owners never check. When you need more room, our certified Isuzu D-Max GVM upgrades cover every D-Max from 2012 on.

Isuzu lifted the 4x4 GCM by 50kg to 6000kg for MY22, but the GVM has stayed at 3100kg across the RG range. That means a 2023 Dmax GVM and a 2025 Dmax GVM on 4x4 dual cabs read the same 3100kg on the compliance plate. Check the D Max 2024 King Cab GVM on its own plate, as figures can vary by cab style and drivetrain.

Front and Rear Axle Limits on the D-Max

Your GVM is printed on the vehicle’s compliance information and listed in the owner’s manual. If your D-Max already has a GVM upgrade, you’ll find a separate federal compliance plate or state modification plate showing the new figure. That’s the number that counts at a roadside weigh.

If you’re asking what is the GVM of a Isuzu D-Max you’re thinking of buying second hand, check the plate on the vehicle rather than the brochure. A pre-registration upgrade done by a previous owner may already have lifted it.

How Far Can the D-Max GVM Be Increased?

A certified GVM upgrade raises both the overall GVM and the axle ratings, using springs, shocks and front struts engineered for the extra load. These are the D-Max options we supply and fit:

On a current D-Max, the 3700kg upgrade adds 600kg of legal GVM, with 200kg more on the front axle and 140kg more on the rear. That’s a meaningful jump for a ute that’s already carrying a full fit-out. Browse our full range of Isuzu D-Max GVM upgrades, or see our guide to the D-Max GCM if you also tow heavy.

Why the D-Max GVM Catches People Out

The D-Max is one of the most popular touring and trade utes in Australia, and plenty of them leave the dealer with a bull bar, towbar, canopy, roof rack and dual battery system already fitted. That accessory weight comes straight off the 3100kg GVM before anyone climbs in.

Running over GVM affects braking, steering feel and vehicle sway, and it can lead to fines, defect notices or an insurance dispute after an accident. A certified upgrade gives you the legal headroom and a suspension that controls the extra weight properly.

FAQs

Looking for more information about the Isuzu D-Max GVM? Below we answer the most commonly asked questions

What is the GVM of an Isuzu D-Max?

The current Isuzu D-Max 4x4, sold from 2020, has a 3100kg GVM. The 2012 to 2020 D-Max 4x4 is rated at 2950kg, and 4x2 models are rated up to 3000kg.

What are the D-Max axle ratings?

The current D-Max 4x4 has a 1450kg front axle rating and a 1910kg rear axle rating. A 3700kg Formula 4x4 GVM upgrade raises these to 1650kg and 2050kg.

What is the 2025 D-Max GVM?

The 2025 Isuzu D-Max 4x4 is rated at 3100kg GVM, with a 6000kg GCM and 3500kg braked towing.

Where is the GVM Dmax compliance plate?

Check the compliance information on the vehicle and the figures in the owner’s manual. An upgraded D-Max will also carry a federal compliance plate or state modification plate showing its new rating.

Is the GVM the same on the D-Max King Cab?

Not always, as GVM, kerb weight and payload can differ between cab styles. Check the compliance plate on your King Cab for its exact rating.

Can I increase my D-Max GVM?

You can, with a certified GVM upgrade fitted by an authorised installer. We offer 3700kg kits for the 2021 to 2024 D-Max and 3600kg kits for earlier models.

Does a D-Max GVM upgrade raise the axle ratings?

The Formula 4x4 3700kg kit does, lifting the front axle to 1650kg and the rear to 2050kg, so the extra GVM is usable at both ends.

What was the GVM of the old D-Max?

The 2012 to 2020 Isuzu D-Max 4x4 was rated at 2950kg GVM. Our Lovells kit for that generation raises it to 3600kg.
