A Toyota Hilux GVM upgrade costs roughly $5,655 to $9,140 fully fitted at Fulcrum Suspensions, depending on your Hilux generation and the kit you choose. Pre-rego engineering is included, while a post-rego upgrade adds $1,265 for the new mod plate and registration change. Every price covers the kit, fitting, alignment and GVM handling.
If you’re pricing a Toyota Hilux GVM upgrade, the number you want is the fitted price with the paperwork done, because a kit sitting in a box doesn’t change your legal limit. Whether you search “how much does a GVM upgrade cost” or ask a mate how much for a GVM upgrade on his ute, the honest answer depends on your generation, kit and registration status. We sell, fit and certify GVM upgrades for the N70, N80 and N90 Hilux through 16 Fulcrum Service Centres and 200+ authorised workshops, so the figures below are what you’d actually pay us to drive away compliant. You can compare every kit side by side in our full range of GVM upgrades.
Prices below are as listed on our website in October 2026 and include GST.
What Does a Hilux GVM Upgrade Cost by Generation and Kit?
The biggest factor in your Hilux GVM upgrade price is which Hilux you drive. Each generation has its own engineered kits, and within each one you can choose between a standard setup and a premium adjustable package.

What’s Included in the Fitted Price of a GVM Upgrade?
Our fitted price is broken into clear lines so there are no surprises at the counter.
Installation through Click & Fit also covers a full suspension check, a visual brake inspection and a written report. At our own Service Centres you get a complimentary 1000km check-up too, where we recheck the suspension, alignment and tyre wear and fix anything that needs it at no charge.

How Much Extra Is a Post-Rego GVM Upgrade?
This is where most Hilux GVM quotes start to vary. A pre-registration upgrade is fitted before your Hilux is registered for the first time, and we include the engineering at no extra cost.
A post-registration upgrade is done on a Hilux that’s already on the road. An engineer has to sign off the installation, issue a modification plate and update the vehicle’s registered data, which adds $1,265 to the fitted price. That makes an N80 Formula 4x4 GVM upgrade $6,920 post-rego.
On some kits we also recommend an upper control arm kit for post-rego vehicles to keep wheel alignment correct at the new ride height. On the Lovells N70 kit it adds $1,095, and it’s compulsory where a post-registration GCM upgrade is being done.
Why Does the GVM Upgrade Price Vary So Much Between Hilux Kits?
Three things drive the gap between a $5,655 and a $9,140 upgrade.
Damping technology: Standard kits use big bore shocks with low pressure nitrogen for fade free performance. F4R kits add remote reservoirs with separate compression and rebound adjustment, which costs more to build but lets you tune the ride for empty or loaded running.
Front end hardware: N90 kits include an upper control arm kit as standard to keep the geometry right at the lifted height, which adds to the kit price.
Rated capacity: A higher upgraded GVM needs springs and shocks engineered and tested to carry and control that extra mass.
What doesn’t change from kit to kit is the certification. Every kit we fit is engineered, approved and supplied with the compliance documents your Hilux needs.
How Does the Toyota Factory GVM Option Compare on Price?
Toyota Australia now offers a factory-fitted GVM option on six work-focused grades of the new N90 Hilux, priced from $4,000 at the time of purchase, and it lifts the GVM to 3500kg.
It’s a sensible choice if you’re buying one of those exact grades new and only need the factory figure. For an existing N70 or N80 Hilux, a Rogue or Rugged X, or an owner who wants more lift and adjustable damping, an aftermarket kit is the way to go. We compare both in detail in our guide to the Toyota Hilux factory GVM upgrade.
Is a Hilux GVM Upgrade Worth the Cost?
If your Hilux is already near its factory GVM with a bull bar, canopy, drawers and touring gear, the upgrade is the only legal way to keep carrying that load. Driving over GVM can lead to fines, defect notices and problems with an insurance claim after an accident.
A properly engineered kit also improves how the Hilux drives loaded. You get less rear sag, better vehicle sway control and more consistent braking and handling under weight.
Not sure you’re over? Book a GVM & Towing Assessment, where for $90 we weigh each corner, check your GVM and GCM position and give you a written recommendation before you spend money on a kit.
